At Smarty Ears we believe technology can help parents and speech therapists improve the communication skills of children with speech and language difficulties. Smarty Ears brought to the world a whole new concept of how children will practice their skills. Speech Therapists many times use materials that are not current with what children experience at home. Technology is everywhere, how can we expect children to engage in worksheets and paper flashcards.
The new technology enabled us to deliver fun apps that can be used by parents, teacher and therapists all with one goal: help to meet the needs of every student with special needs. Several of our applications bring solutions that are not only much more affordable to parents, teachers and school districts but are also very intuitive and easy to customize. This way we know everyone will be able to use it.

Articulate it! This app provides flash cards for each consonant sound and blend in each word position at the word, phrase and sentence leve and a matching game at the word level. I love that you can choose to practice by phoneme, phonological process, manner of articulation or number of syllables (choose among 1-4 syllables). I have several students working on multisyllabic words so this is a big plus for me. Data is saved per session per student and the percentage accuracy for each level (word, phrase, sentence) and word position is recorded. The specific words practiced and whether they were produced correctly or incorrectly are also saved. The app includes homework pages for each sound in each position in words, phrases and sentences. The homework pages can be printed or emailed. These have been a huge timesaver for me!

R Intensive SLP was developed as a result of “intensive” requests made by our Speech Therapists. Smarty Ears is aware of the high incidence of students seen for their difficulties with /r/. This phoneme is one of the hardest phonemes for children to master. The speech-language pathologist in conjunction with the parents can use this application for helping the child practice correct pronunciation of the various types of /r/. This application can give children the motivation they need to continue practice and eventual mastery of this phoneme.
R Intensive contains 3 exciting activities: 1.Flashcards: Allows practice of the r at the word, phrase, and sentence levels. Multiplayer mode supports 1-4 players with individual targets for each student.
2.Matching game: 4×5 rows of cards (20 card decks) make working on your favorite type of R a skill of memory and articulation. Supports 1-4 players per game.
3.Guess What game: students will have fun guessing which R word is described, while at the same time practicing their articulation. If the description clue is ever too difficult simply tap on the hidden image to reveal the answer. Supports 1-4 players.
Award winning apps that allow parents, teachers, and speech pathologists to help students overcome language and social difficulties in a fun and engaging way. By engaging the visual, audio, and tactile sense, children learn faster and retain what they learn with more ease.
